# Dealing with Images
In this section, you’ll deal with the raw and jpeg files that you capture. After you import them into your computer, you’re ready to deal with images in general. First, however, you need to read about the file type of your captures.
# Image Formats
The world of digital images is a confusing one. Is it a jpeg or a _.jpg_? If you have a Nikon D3100, and you used a Nikon Speedlight SB-800 to illuminate the scene, is it a RAW image? Is it a RAW file, a jpeg, or a _.tif_? (Do you even know that a _tif_ file is for film, the precursor to modern digital images? You probably don’t. In this book, I’ll address the issue of file formats with multiple chapters on the topic.)
## Raw Files
RAW (also called NEF) is a not-yet-processed file format. You aren’t supposed to edit these files. Your camera processes the file right as you snap the picture. When it’s ready, it sends the image to your computer by a computer-to-camera bridge. This process is called _jpeg encoding_. The jpeg is an image that is much easier to manipulate, though a RAW image has a number of advantages (see Figure 5-4).

There are different software tools that allow you to crop photos in Photoshop. One of the most widely used features is the Crop Tool. The tool will come with your program.
If you click on a photo and choose Crop, then the crop will appear on the image in the workspace.
We will show you how to use the tool to add a border, crop a photo, remove unnecessary elements and create a new border around the photo.
Adding a border
You can use the Crop Tool to add borders around your pictures. Click on the Marquee Tool.
Click the Marquee Tool and drag to draw a border around the picture.
You can also use the Photoshop Brush Tool.
Cloning is a process used to produce a perfect copy of an area in the source photo. It involves copying the part of the image that is copied to a new layer.
There are different Photoshop tools that can help you clone and save the image that you have cloned.
In the tools palette, select the Clone Stamp Tool.

An experimental study on a new design method for laser-induced damage microscopy for two-dimensional size- and space-resolved damage formation.
Two-dimensional (2D) damage formation, including particle damage as well as defect damage, is ubiquitous in nano-scale and micro-scale materials. It may directly result in technological performance degradation in functional devices and has, thus, attracted increasing attention in recent years. Laser-induced damage microscopy (LIDM) has been established as a powerful tool to probe damage formation. In LIDM, one main challenge is the existence of heterogeneities in the two-dimensional damage space, the size of which can be comparable to that of a pixel. In this work, a new design method for LIDM is proposed, which is based on localized point-to-point scanning. By using an in-house-developed two-dimensional projection imaging system, a pixelized two-dimensional damage formation map can be obtained and the location and size of heterogeneities in the damage formation space can be determined. The methods are validated experimentally using a large-scale patterned cathode spot fabricated with a pulsed laser. We reveal that the investigated spot is composed of material and defect domains with different damage formation properties. For a short applied voltage pulse in a domain with a high electron emission efficiency, the point-to-point scanning pattern can be tailored to perform damage formation mapping by determining the starting point as well as the scanning step-size.1. 2. Description of Related Art
It is known in the prior art for a medical x-ray imaging system to include an imaging screen which is placed on a patient and an x-ray radiation source which directs an x-ray beam through a portion of the patient to the imaging screen. The imaging screen is typically produced of a material having a high atomic number, such as an amorphous silicon. The present invention relates to an imaging apparatus and an imaging method.
2. Description of the Related Art
In an imaging apparatus provided with a focus detection unit, light reaching an image pickup device is monitored for the focus detection to detect the in-focus direction and the in-focus position at which the imaging apparatus (including the image pickup device) is in best focus. Then, after the in-focus direction and the in-focus position are adjusted, shooting is performed.
For example, JP-A-2008-123142 discloses a technique of changing the exposure amount according to the movement speed in the focus detection. Specifically, the exposure amount is switched between a small exposure amount and a large exposure amount according to the speed of an object moving in the focus detection.
However, according to the related art, the exposure amount used in focus detection is the maximum exposure amount. Therefore, when the depth of field is small, there is a problem that the in-focus position can be controlled only with a small distance between the object and the image pickup device.
For example, when the depth of field is 1 m or less, it may be necessary to set the distance between the object and the image pickup device to be 0.1 m or less. Then, to adjust the object distance to 0.1 m, it is necessary to move the object at a speed of 10 cm/s, for example. However, even if the exposure amount is switched between a large exposure amount and a small exposure amount at the speed of 10 cm/s or more, the object can move only 0.1 m in the focus detection. Accordingly, it is not possible to set the exposure amount to a small amount, i.e., it is not possible to set the distance between the object and the image pickup device to be 0.1 m or less.Q:

There is a specific case when I want to use servers as an event source (in order to create a shell). Instead of sending just a plain “INPUT” command, I send the command with a one-time token (for my company) and a timestamp with it. The server will then search for that token, and check if the timestamp is ok (within some parameters, in case of a wrong command).
I’ve read about node’s EventEmitter, and so far, I’ve got no problem with this.
