that same year tara told her mother that she was pregnant. the news rocked the family and it took another two years before jennifer was able to see her child. she was seven months pregnant, so he was born a year ago.

tara has since had to endure a series of stressful events, including the termination of her relationship with her boyfriend, a farewell from her best friend and a move from melbourne to sydney. as the family say goodbye to tara, they have a message for other women who have been sexually abused. tarrys story is not unique. it has happened to her friend and other women. it happens to girls. it happens to boys. it happens to parents. it happens to siblings and in-laws. no-one is immune. no one is invincible.

the family wants tara to know she is not alone. she needs a safe place to talk and maybe see a counsellor. she needs help dealing with what has happened to her, and she needs to help the community learn about sexual abuse. this is our daughter, not a criminal.

on a visit to the police station in queensland in may 2009, tara was given the opportunity to meet her abuser. she told him that she was glad he was going to jail because he had hurt her. she then told the police that he had raped her and had also filmed the abuse.

tara was now living in adelaide and was soon to start grade 6. she has started school for the first time since the abuse and is doing well. she still has night terrors and flashbacks to what happened when she was a child.

and this is the face of your winner. we are still in shock. this is the face of our daughter. she is here in the court room. tara is safe and she is beautiful, she is like a miracle. i cant even believe that she is actually here, that she is healthy and that she can walk and talk. i think its just the most unbelievable thing that ive ever seen in my life, and ive seen a lot of things in my life. her face was the most devastated that ive ever seen. she was just looking at me with a million dollar smile. she just kept looking at me and saying, its me, its me, its me.

liz did not know much about child sexual abuse, but she did know that it could happen to any child and that the best thing to do was to support the victim. she encouraged tara to talk to her dad and to tell her mum and brother about what had happened. she also encouraged tara to go to the police, and it wasnt long before tara, her parents, and the police began trying to trace the man who had taken her and who was abusing her. she worked with the police and after a few weeks a breakthrough came. a couple in texas used a credit card to buy a computer and cameras and it was from this that they identified the man who had raped tara. a warrant was issued and the man was arrested. tara was not yet 16 when the man she met online began befriending her. she was distressed and had an interest in the occult. she wanted someone to talk to. he came to her house to watch a movie and they chatted. he began making advances and she agreed to meet him. he kidnapped tara on the night of march 15, 2009. he drove her to the station and into a small room, where they had sex. she stayed at the station for a few days, until it was time for her to be returned to her parents. the man was convicted and has been sentenced to 14 years in prison. he has also been convicted in the united states for unrelated offences. the man had been a friend of the family, but this did not stop tara from becoming a victim. she was not able to have her mind read, nor did she respond well to those who tried. she said that she will never have a relationship with another man and she has found support from her family. 5ec8ef588b
